Designing informational materials with consistent branding and clear messaging helps us communicate effectively. See my designs of advertising, curricular, and informational documents for print and web view below.
Communicating Science Conference – Atlanta (2021)
I served as the Materials Manager for the 2021 Communicating Science Conference (ComSciCon Atlanta). This intensive project lasted 9 months and included fundraising, inviting science communication experts for lectures and workshops, coordinating conference activities, designing and purchasing branded items, and leading portions of the conference. I prepared graphics, flyers, and detailed documents for participants and expert panelists.
Curriculum requirements for graduate students
I created a condensed “cheat-sheet” to concisely communicate required courses and milestones when our department restructured the graduate student curriculum. This graphic is used on the Information for Graduate Students page (checklist, quick reference).
In designing this graphic, I received feedback from the faculty and administrative graduate student assistants to make an effective document for future students.
The curriculum overhaul was spurred by results from the student-led Graduate Student Satisfaction Survey. I also helped design the survey and contributed data visualizations for this annual survey. You can find this project in my section on graphical abstracts and figures.
Undergraduate lab manual formatting
I used Microsoft Word templates to produce documents detailing undergraduate introductory microbiology laboratory experiments with coherent designs.
I also designed custom figures for Introduction and Methods sections of experiments.
Microbiology department flyers
I practiced my document design skills by making eye-catching flyers for social and professional events held by the Microbiology Graduate Student Association.
